Surrendering MTNL Broadband Connection

Surrendering MTNL broadband is a big headache as per many site and forums. But its not true.

Today I surrendered MTNL's TriB Freedom 297 plan with wireless router. Was very tensed after reading very bad comments about the procedure from various sources, which let me think that it will be a long process and will take lots of time. Also the only information I got was need to submit the hand written letter.

So I went to MTNL office QCS(Quick Customer Service) department to understand the procedure. Lady told me that just bring your equipment if taken from MTNL and submit it to them. They will give a receipt. And then its done.

I went back home. Collected each and every piece of equipment and took back to MTNL office, surrendered it. That person gave me one receipt and told me to take a xerox and hand it over to QCS department.

So I took a xerox and submitted it to QCS department. As I have taken 2 written letters for request of surrender, she took one for the procedure and other gave back to me with a stamp of MTNL and her signature.
If you take only 1 then you will need to xerox the same for stamping purpose.

Also I kept the other service of MTNL on, so you will need to specify clearly that you want to just remove the broadband service and not other.

This was quick and easy.

  1. MTNL is a sister concern company of BSNL and comes under Central Govt... The customer base of MTNL is nearly 5.92 million. And from past few years the graph is going down even if the Indian Govt. is spending too much of huge amount to uplift the customer base, but still the graph is going down and the main reason is their “GREAT SERVICES”. The MTNL lineman don’t have enough idea to configure even a modem and to solve a single complaint they take nearly 1 month or more because the don’t have enough workforce and the coverage area is very big. And when you see the MTNL exchange you become shocked to see their exchange, made of HUWIA equipments, and when you see the AIRTEL exchange you will find Ericson equipments just because the cost of HUWAI equipments are nearly half then Ericson. I have also file a complaint with Consumer Court and its being more than a Year ( http://www.consumercourt.in/broadband/1-mtnl-broadband.html ) but I know all the Govt. agency are same.
Basically they have two type of exchange one is for 256 Kbps and one for above 256Kbps, if you buy plan for above 256 then you may get good response because for that only they use Ericson exchange.
I don’t know why the Govt. change the plan to get more customer and spend a huge amount in ads, the salary of lineman is nearly 15000/-, I think this is a total waste. Customers are very much frustrated from MTNL. If you visit the MTNL exchange you will find many customers shouting on the Area Manager. MY personal experience with MTNL was pathetic and now I switched to another services provider and now I am very much satisfied.

    1. I know its bit frustrating for various reasons. See I just called MTNL on 1500 and they installed modem and network with in (i don't remember exactly but in) 2-3 days after a call. Hardly he must have taken 30 minutes for all the setup.
I felt like a great service, but the 1 month bill amount was equal to my other service provider's 4 months bill, which is not acceptable. So I removed it. But even that was bit easy I think as written above. But still the bill contains the same amount. Because it was middle of the month I surrendered.
So it depends on the people may be.
Well, I will be checking the next bill, hope I don't have to go to consumer court. But my experience till now is good except the billing part.
